Privacy Policy

FoodieSonar ("we," "us") is operated by WCF Holdings, LLC, an Arizona limited liability company. This policy explains what information the FoodieSonar mobile app and website collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have.

The short version. We collect your email, the restaurants you save, and your location (so we can tell you when you're near a saved spot). We don't sell your data. When you save a restaurant and attribute it to a food reviewer, that restaurant becomes part of a public catalog — but your identity is never attached to it.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address and a securely stored password. You may optionally provide a display name.

Location information

FoodieSonar's core feature is alerting you when you're near a restaurant you've saved. To do that, the app may access your device's location:

While using the app — to sort nearby spots and center the map.
In the background — if you enable nearby alerts, so we can notify you when you come within your chosen radius of a saved spot.
A location you choose manually — for example when planning a trip to another city.

Background location access is optional. You can decline it, or revoke it at any time in your device settings, and the rest of the app will continue to work — you simply won't receive proximity alerts.

Content you create

The restaurants you save, the reviewer you attribute them to, cuisine tags, notes about dishes, and any links you share into the app.

Usage information

Basic technical data such as device type, operating system version, app version, and error logs, used to diagnose problems and improve reliability.

2. How we use your information

To provide the service — saving spots, showing them on a map, and sending nearby alerts.
To resolve a restaurant name or shared link into an actual address and map location.
To operate accounts, authenticate you, and provide support.
To maintain and improve the app, including diagnosing crashes and errors.
To communicate with you about the service or beta access, if you've asked us to.

3. Community contributions and what becomes public

FoodieSonar builds a shared catalog of restaurants associated with food reviewers. When you save a restaurant and attribute it to a reviewer, the restaurant (its name, address, coordinates, and cuisine) and the reviewer attribution may be added to that public catalog, so other users who follow that reviewer can discover it.

Your identity is not attached. We do not publish who saved a spot, and we do not expose your personal saved list to other users. We may store an internal count of how many people have independently attributed a restaurant to a reviewer, but that count contains no identifying information.

4. Service providers

We rely on a small number of third parties to operate the service:

Supabase — database hosting, authentication, and file storage.
Google Maps Platform — maps, place search, and converting addresses into map coordinates.
Meta / Instagram — if you share an Instagram post into the app, we may use Instagram's official embed service to display that post and identify its author.
Netlify — hosting for this website.

These providers process data on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

5. Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information and saved spots for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual saved spots at any time in the app.

To delete your account and associated personal data, email hello@foodiesonar.com and we'll process the request. Note that restaurant and reviewer entries already contributed to the public catalog may remain, since they contain no personal information about you.

6. Your choices

Location — grant, limit, or revoke location access in your device settings.
Notifications — turn nearby alerts on or off in the app or your device settings.
Access and deletion — contact us to request a copy of your data or its deletion.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise those rights.

7. Children

FoodieSonar is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections and access controls to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll provide notice in the app or by email.
